Grief Quotes October 17, 2023
"Grief is itself a medicine." — William Cowper
This grief quote is credited to William Cowper, an English Poet of the 18th century. I find it incredibly wise of William to understand that the pain of grief is also it’s healing component.
Have you heard the term “befriending grief?” It means to welcome it, not resist it, and “accept” it as part of your reality. I personally and professionally believe that in order to make peace with your loss and find purpose in life again, one must embrace the befriending of grief in order to let the emotions move through you.
It’s natural to struggle with this process. I mean, “who wants more pain when you already feel devastated?” But the irony is, befriending grief doesn’t cause more pain. It makes the sensations feel less intense and more gentle. And that’s where grief itself will feel like a medicine.
