Coping With the Loss of Your Significant Other

A new Grief Refuge support group for people who are grieving the loss of their spouse / significant other

Please join us for a new grief support community group starting May 2nd. We will meet online each Tuesday for 8 consecutive weeks. The group will start on May 3rd at 8pm ET | 5pm PT and complete on June 20th. Each Tuesday, our group will meet for 90 minutes.

This is a closed group, limited to 12 participants. We will use Zoom to meet each time.

Feel Support From People Who Know What You’re Going Through

This grief support community group is provided to people who feel lonely, lost, unmotivated and hurt by grief due to the loss of their significant other. You will have the time and space to feel seen, heard, and supported throughout your grief journey. There will also be supplemental education and content based on Dr. Alan Wolfelt's books, When Your Soulmate Dies and First Aid for Broken Hearts.

As a participant in the group, you will:

  • Get needed support to help cope with loss and manage your grief.

  • Feel soothed and comforted to help ease the sense of loneliness and isolation.

  • Learn practical ways to handle the feelings of hopelessness and despair.

  • Gain a framework and understanding for how to understand and navigate your grief journey.

  • Join a community that understands what you are going through.

This loss of significant other group is facilitated by Garrick Colwell. On November 1, 2014, Garrick married Kinsloe Kelley Queen. Twenty-two days later, Kinsloe received a Stage 4 cancer diagnosis with six months to live. Instead of spending their honeymoon as they had planned by the ocean, they spent it at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. For the next four years, three months, and two weeks they were together 24/7 until Tuesday, February 12, 2019, when Kinsloe died at home in Garrick's arms.

Since that day, Garrick has dedicated his time and energy to studying with grief experts David Kessler and Dr. Alan Wolfelt to learn how to authentically grieve and mourn the loss of Kinsloe and how to companion others as they learn to navigate through the wilderness of their grief. Garrick is a Certified Grief Educator through David Kessler at grief.com and holds a Death and Grief Studies Certification from The Center for Loss and Life Transition under the direction of Dr. Alan Wolflet. He is also a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist and facilitates loss of spouse and loss of parent grief support groups.

Due to the sensitivity of the topic, seating is limited to 12 participants. This allows for a more sacred and safe space to support your personal healing and transformation.
